![]() This is my first Green novel, so I wasn't to sure what to expect other than that it was about some cancer kids, kids with cancer, teens living with cancer, teens fighting the hard fight - so on and so forth. In my opinion, it was neither of the huge adjectives. I noticed there was a movie soon to be released based on the novel, then I stumbled upon Goodreads where I read many lovely worded reviews about how outstanding and extraordinary and wonderful and stupendous and amazing this novel was. I decided to read this book because of all the hype. I was expecting this book to transcend its genre. There are some great books meant for younger readers, but they lack these characteristics, and are usually separated into the "children's" section rather than the "young adult." (There are always exceptions, of course. Issues surround the novel, and feelings are shoved into every word. It's never that a character is experiencing this, or that in the natural course of life and experience, these things come up. They are about CANCER or HOMOSEXUALITY or some other serious, controversial/difficulty topic. ![]() What I dislike about teenage novels is how often they are so genre specific. ![]() I really love his internet persona, and with how highly rated his books are, I was certain they were going to be great.įor me, it wasn't that they were necessarily bad they just fulfilled the requirements of their genre. While I basically enjoyed this book, I was incredibly disappointed by it and all of John Green's books. ![]()
